Boudin, Eugene Louis (1824-1898).
If Toulouse-Lautrec captured the bourgeois
in seclusion, Boudin finds them at play, "At the beach."
While his depictions of Normandy are peaceful, they draw a
careful contrast between high civilization and open nature.
The recurrent parasol and overly-bright, almost menacing sky
captures something of the incompatibility of these worlds,
which has been preserved here in reproductions by Ivan Leone.
